The moment of birth was easy for Adeola and when she saw her golden son she paraded him around to the others. Despite what was thought and later taught, there was no competition between them about who was going to take over after Adeola – the truth was that a certain cousin of Ufalme’s was being picked on by another. The dark male, Giza was not looked at well by his grandfather’s pride because his father had abandoned Emiola and caused her “broken heart” and Ufalme was sorry for him. The two males grew closer then brothers and trained under the watchful eye of their grandfather Bingwa and his mother Adeola… they never had a problem until Jua appeared.

Born practically white the pride went crazy and began to praise the child as though he was the son of the sun, Giza was not permitted to go near him at all and was hurt if he did. Ufalme though was welcome to but warned that Jua’s colour alone gave him the right to rule, something Bingwa did not believe was right. With Jua joining their lessons and Ufalme told he would have to be a bodyguard, everything became tense and Giza soon turned on Bingwa for stopping him from beating the deaf white cub!

From that moment Giza disappeared and Ufalme was worried, but he was stuck looking after Jua and was reminded of what his grandfather, who recently died had done. There would always be conflict if something like blood line or colouration stops the natural order and neutrality of the Pride Lands. Ufalme would have to be king – or there would be war.

He informed the pride members of this and they were reminded of the grandfather that they had all loved greatly and honoured. Understanding what he wanted, Adeola stepped down for her son and Jua was treated with honour and seemed happy with his cousin. However, when Giza returned it was with an army from the Dark Jungles of the South – baboons and black leopards that seemed tainted and terrifying. They started an attack and soon Ufalme had to enter battle and stop his brother.

When he looks to be killed himself, Jua lunges in and looses his life to protect his big cousin, taking Giza down with him. Ufalme is left seeing the differences between the dark animals and the light – he is angry and punishes Giza’s followers – exiling them. But the pride land animals go one step further, fearing the sun would kill them all for the death of his son, they slaughtered or chased away the darkest of their young and Ufalme was left realising that the neutrality was gone and believed it was his fault.

This guilt he put through to his son Chuma… but his son has a different idea.

Okay, so it’s that same base and details as last time, but Ufalme’s colours were far too rich and too “early” in the generations to appear the way it does – plus more orange then golden! So instead I went for a match between his grandfather’s colouring and the bronze sheen I like to use for my Sarabi-related lions. He still looks golden but more importantly he looks like his dad.
