Part Two: Just a Dream?

Lucinda was not as perturbed by the situation as perhaps she should have been, maybe it was on account of her mind now trying to convince her that this was actually the weirdest dream she'd had in ages. The idea that the mirror being broken was going to make her ill just seemed foolish and Lucy gave a kind of chuckle that sounded more like a hiccup. For a moment Alfred stared at her in confusion, before a sudden pain gripped her and Lucy suddenly lurched forward to vomit blood.

"Oh God! My kissing isn't that bad is it?" America suddenly howled in upset. But Lucy could barely keep her eyes open and suddenly began to wobble. She spun, her eyes rolling as she managed to grip hold of America's jacket and try to steady herself. As she felt weak he suddenly pulled his arms around her and lifted her up. "It's okay Lucy – a hero wouldn't let you fall…."

"You are a hero aren't you?" Lucy grinned almost like a drunk and lent forward to gently press her lips against his, despite the look of horror at the blood still on them. Despite the coppery tint that met his lips and edge of his tongue, Alfred was all too eager to kiss back and with just an introduction of interest she seemed to sag. America pulled back and realised that Lucy had collapsed into his arms. This was not good!

"Yo Britain! What the hell do I do man?" America bleated in upset.

"I'll put this mirror back together with a spell and then you go after those little creatures. Leave Lucy here with me and I'll make sure she'll be alright." England snorted only for America to nod his head and drop Lucy on the floor as he began to run. England watched him, looked at her prone form and then swore before shuffling over.

Lucy soon came to again but her body felt like a leech was sucking the life from her. She looked around, her neck feeling heavy as she spotted the almost perfect mirror in front of her. Lucy was surprised at how easily England had done it and smiled very happily toward him as he stepped over a pressed a damp cloth to her forehead. Her blue eyes remained their strong twinkle and England ended up blushing for being so close to a weakened woman.

"There you go Lucy… soon it will all be over and you'll be alright to go home. I'm sorry for all this; I made the wrong spell and pulled you in here by accident. I really am sorry I tried to bury you as well…. Uh… sorry I'm babbling but having a woman in my house whose not here for a specific reason is a little… well its damned inappropriate!" He moaned in annoyance as he turned his head away. Lucy smiled warmly and then gripped his hand with what little strength she had at that moment.

"I can understand… to be honest I'm not sure if I'm actually in a coma and this is a dream. But to have been somewhere else and been around two such interesting gentlemen, though briefly has been the time of my life. Thank you for doing what you have." Her smile warmed his heart and made his cheeks flush almost to the point that he fainted as well. But despite the kindness Lucy had shown, England mistook it for a moment and leant his head down as if to kiss her.

"BASTARD!" Something came flying in the room and tackled England over the chest where Lucy was lying again. Her eyes shot open in surprise as England was punched a few times before America stood up and clapped his hands together. "And that's why you don't mess with my girl!"

"Your girl? Oh that's really sweet of you…" Lucy sighed gently, feeling weak and slightly disappointed that he had not shown off the missing piece of mirror that was obvious or the little horrors that had shuffled around. Lucy felt her strength weakening and held out a hand.

"You are though, aren't you Lucy?" Alfred questioned, a strange sadness forming in his eyes and he bent down to her and gripped her hand. She pushed it against his chest, feeling his heavy heartbeat, and smiled gently. Before America could help himself he was pushing her hands against his chest as he leant his body down to give her the soft but passionate kiss that England had appeared to be attempting.

"What on earth is that wriggling in your chest?" Lucy broke the kiss with a startled cry as she watched something shuffle under Alfred's jacket. Okay, so she might be in a different world but that certainly must not be normal. America just blushed and slapped the back of his head with a grin as he pulled something out of his shirt.

"Just one of these critter things – I call 'im Ted!" In America's hand stood one of the little bugs, more like a cloud of black furry soot with lots of long pipe-cleaner legs. Two legs were held close to it and between them was a large chunk of mirror. Lucy's eyes widened in surprise and Alfred quickly took the critter to the mirror. He had a small tug of war as the creature, suddenly revealing to big white eyes, tried desperately to keep the piece against himself and not let America have any of it. But America was just too strong.

"Put it in the right place then chuck that moth-ball through and carry Lucy through before getting out yourself!" England groaned from behind the sofa as he tried to recompose himself. Alfred did what was required and with a high-pitched howl the mirror was back to its band-new look and the critters were being sucked in like a vacuum. Lucy was suddenly sitting up but still weak as the vortex ignored America and started to suck her, and the sofa, toward the mirror.

"But… but I don't want to go! I like it here and I love you Alfred!" Lucy began, suddenly thrown off the sofa and into Alfred's open arms. He held her close against him with his back to the mirror as the vortex tried to push her in, her golden-brown locks whipping about around his face. She looked up at him sadly and he looked sad too, then they kissed again. This time it seemed powerful but restrained all at once. The moment it was over Alfred turned around and slipped through the mirror with her.

"I don't know… you might still die in my world…" America began as he landed firmly on the other side of the mirror and back to the place where Lucy was quite shocked to see her body looking grey and lifeless on the floor beneath. Yeah… she was in some out of body state and could see her family members milling around her. But she turned sharply toward Alfred and gripped his shoulders with another firm kiss.

"I understand now…." Lucinda tried to hold back her tears, but one escaped down her cheek. Alfred lifted a thumb to wipe it away before giving her a firm thumbs up and leaping back into the mirror. The moment he did there was a flash and Lucinda gave a sudden gasp. She looked upward at the panicked eyes but could not see Alfred's amongst them. Almost wordlessly she managed to wheeze out a few words. "I love America…"

"Oh great she's gone barmy." One of her relatives grunted in annoyance and Lucy found herself daring to smile despite her sadness.
