When he was born it should have been the most wonderful moment ever for his father, but instead Kincaid’s birth brought with it the death of his mother and an overwhelming resentment. Although Touran tried hard to look after his son, his nomadic lifestyle made it difficult and he was forced into drastic action, egged on by his brewing hatred for the child. So Touran cast the boy aside, leaving him with his brother Torgong and swearing he had no son and had never been in love either.

With Torgong though, Kincaid grew up with other orphans and barely worried about the matters of the adults. He was a very happy and fun child, an excellent student and for a long time it was assumed that he might even become Torgong’s heir. However, when Kincaid saw his father arriving and ran up to him in delight, he was rolled out of the way and was left confused. His hopes to find an answer led the revelation of what had happened to his mother and Kincaid guessed early on that only becoming a warrior would gain his father’s respect and love.

Kincaid grew tougher, more eager to fight to get better and with it and adolescence, more eager to get other dragons to fight him. He caused situations in order to get the chance to squabble and became a point of concern for the adults in Moskau. When they began to isolate their children from him, Kincaid saw within it the same rejection given by his father and became more aggressive with bitterness. The only dragons he could trust to give him any affection was his dear uncle Torgong, his aunty Bestrafe who was able to become his sparring partner due to her own wish to raise a warrior son and of course his constant companion Yukimura. His fondness for Yukimura increased into a manner that was considered problematic by Torgong, who tried to encourage the idea that they were all siblings and so needed to respect the feelings of one another. But it did not work and when Yukimura met a young male she was eager to join, Kincaid attacked and nearly raped her! For this he received the beating of a lifetime from Torgong and with one smack to the left eye the nerve connection was frayed and Kincaid became blind in it.

In his outrage the male ran away and immediately ended up in a fight with a young male called Leif that nearly had him killed. Torgong although still angry appeared to save the young male and took him to Storm Valley. There Kincaid found more dragons eager to fight and amongst them a curious and powerful male named Zeus. This male was intrigued from the start and using shape-shifting abilities appeared to Kincaid as a female and tried to seduce him. Kincaid ignored this and ended up irritating Zeus enough that he tried to have him killed. When Kincaid killed his would-be assassins, including Zeus’ useless little brother, the other dragons in the valley were both horrified and excited. Zeus managed to get Kincaid to come around and join his gang at a high rank. Kincaid even took to becoming a blood soak for Zeus, so long as he was provided with outlets to become a better warrior. One such outlet was a battle at Mount Flame that nearly got him killed. Zeus was able to escape of course, but Kincaid had his right eye scarred and his right wing pulled off. Once again it was Torgong who arrived to save him, but Kincaid was not grateful and returned to Zeus’ company. There he met Zeus’ younger brother Carpe Noctem and was actually quite fond of the young male that called him so many horrible names that Kincaid learnt the handy trick of sitting on the male to shut him up. But his familiarity and friendship with Noctem was obvious in that they shared the same parental rejection. However, Noctem and Zeus were soon in trouble with their mother who was trying to marry them off and Zeus was eager to have his own piece of land.

He sent Kincaid out to find the perfect place to slaughter and by that unfortunate luck, Kincaid made his way towards Moskau and happened to be passing through the Draken River area. There he found a female in heat - he had not shown interest in females since the incident with Yukimura as he had seen how they could so easily distract a male and cause trouble. So at first he wanted to ignore the scent, but some strange interest in the scents of other males in the area drew him to her and that was where he met Ulalume.

He and Ulalume have had many adventures together so far, including him becoming the lord and killing all but Kilkoon, as well as taking the role of Ulalume’s mate and the spare baby-sitter. Kincaid was almost killed by Hastings and instead had to make a deal with Death in order to keep Ulalume alive. Things seem to have relaxed, his helpfulness towards two lesbian dragonesses have meant that he can be assured of producing young with Ulalume and he gives affection and love to all the orphans in the area. But things are changing with the presence of Kilkoon and the nasty stipulations from the deal with death....

Here’s my renewed data for dear old Kincaid – don’t you just love the guy? I think next to Zeus he’s one of the favourite characters of everyone. I have to admit, he’s my number five and after his is Carpe Noctem! Hahaha!
