So I use a lot of format's to help me develop my worlds and most of them are simply lists of questions, e.g. just questions for a character to see how much thought and detail I actually put into them. Of course I have the typical characters sheets and bullet lists for plot etc but you'd be surprised how much questions can just help you with some of the minor details in your world.
So I thought I'd show you the link to a good blog that asks some interesting questions and I'll try and fill them in here as basically as possible.

Here's the link to the blog: www.nownovel.com/blog/10-quest…

Here are the questions:

  1. Where is the story located? Is it a past, future or alternative Earth, or is it another planet or another dimension?
Yedidya is a different universe to ours and most of my stories for it go from them the years after Reflection was born to 10,021 years
  2. Who are the main intelligent inhabitants of your fantasy world? Are humans the only intelligent species, or will there be creatures like dwarves, fairies, elves and more? Alternately, will there be species you’ve made up?
The dragons are the most intelligent and dominant species in this world, beneath them are the griffon, the elves and then the humans and human-like creatures
  3. What is the government system in the part of the world you’re focusing on? Is it a monarchy, a republic, a democracy, a dictatorship or something else?
Dragondera in particular is an empire; various states under the rule of one monarch with lords beneath him that govern each land (although towards the end of it starts to be a lot more democratic in certain states and there is a lot more free reign).
  4. What is the rest of the world like? What types of government and inhabitants are there? What is the relationship between people you’re writing about and the rest of their world? Are they the dominant culture, or are they dominated?
The rest of Yedidya has a much more varied set of systems with Escalindaro being a democracy, although the dragons still believe in having royalty although they are more like figureheads. Other places like Nabafornaco are more extreme and tend to be spawning points for tyrants and dictators. Although dragons are dominant in most places, the smaller island communities tend to have much more tension and although to most of the intelligent species Dragondera is a place to envy, it has a bad reputation amongst the humans (the Folan) because of their aggression towards humans.
  5. What important historical events have led to the present situation? What wars, alliances and other situations are relevant?
There's been a good few but them main points include Alumina going into a deep sleep and the moon disappearing, the development of the demon dragon, the purges caused by the Folan, the extinction of the Rainbow dragon and then the returns to Dragondera of the line of Alumina.
  6. Technologically, how does the fantasy world compare to our world? Is it more or less advanced, or does it have a mix of technologies?
Its much less advanced although thanks to magic there are a few things similar to our world but mostly this is on Escalindaro
  7. What is the standard of living for average people? How educated do they tend to be? What does “educated” mean in this world?
Most dragons live in family groups in territories with a basic education of history and current social matters but actually being taught about more then their current place is "educated". The lords often are more educated although some are just the strongest.
  8. Does magic exist in the world, and if so, how is it regarded, and who practises it?
Yes, it's not really thought of as much as its reasonably common
  9. What are the most important values of the society that you are writing about? What type of religion do people practise?
They believe in their main eleven gods and a few lesser gods linked to those - they pray and sometimes gift things in worship but dragons are said to be more linked and do not always need to practice this religion. The most important values tend to be having something to pass on to the next generation, whether its territory or wisdom.
  10. What is the class situation in the society you are focusing on? Does one gender or race tend to be favoured over another?
Males tend to be more dominant and of course dragons are the more dominant race.

This history of the my book's world is... complicated - history has been re-written multiple times and the government is basically made up of seven separate but equal draconic rulers based on the seven virtues and one that presides over them who is of unknown origin and specie.
